I am pretty excited that I have joined a year long CAL (crochet-a-long) on Ravelry.
Now it may sound quite overwhelming to commit to a project for a whopping 52 weeks but I actually LOVE this one as we only crochet one 12" square per month. At the end of the year each participant will have enough for a nice blanket, without any stress involved.
What I love most about this is that fact that I am getting rid use of all the left over yarns I cannot seem to find a purpose for. That also means that the finished Afghan will most likely to be kinda quirky as the colours range from muted to bright.
For January we have been using the Woolly's Snowflake pattern for our square and I enjoyed it so much that I made two squares. I decided that to get a decent sized Afghan, I will need more than 12 big squares - so each month will have me complete two of the same. BUT to make it more interesting I will change the colours in each square. Difficult to describe so let me show you what I mean.

And now the same colours only the opposite way.

Isn't it kind of amazing that the same colours used in a different order make the end product look so different?
Now I cannot wait to see what our February square will be.

Very cool design, Kim! LOVE that snowflake center!
ReplyDeleteI really love the colours. I might make one myself this weekend but I won't have anywhere as near a pretty colours as you've got.
ReplyDeleteIts amazing how different they look, yet the same colours. They are very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI joined up for a year long blanket knit. It took me over 2 years (hangs head in shame). I think crochet may well be a better option as it grows so much faster, even if it eats more yarn.
ReplyDeleteYour squares are beautiful. I love the colors.
ReplyDeleteVery cool looking! I love the color combo!
ReplyDeleteOooh, that sounds like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely square and the colors you chose are so dynamic. Good luck with the rest of the blanket!
ReplyDeleteLove the snowflake square. I'm hoping I can learn a basic granny square to work on a year long blanket project. I've failed so far :(
ReplyDeleteWhat a very pretty square! I'm adding it to my queue right now!
ReplyDeleteNice squares so far, and I loved mixed colors too. I tried a cal once and it just wasn't for me. It was a square a week and it was too easy to get behind, or have the square be one you didn't like and therefore didn't want to make etc. Good luck with yours, looks like you have a good start.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cute! I love the pattern.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the square a month kick this year in so many groups. They're so addicting to do! Love how your snowflake square turned out!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty. The design looks like a great way to play with color combos!
ReplyDeleteThese are great! What a perfect way to use up all the extra yarn.
ReplyDeletei think it's a great idea!! better this than something like project life, which you'd most likely get sick of after six weeks, right? your squares are awesome, love that pattern and the colors are so fun! can't wait to see more :)
ReplyDeletelove the square! such a pretty snowflake :D
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea and I really love your square! Can't wait to see your square count grow as the year goes on.
