WIP - Selbudeath Socks

I am currently loving {this sock pattern} - the Selbudeath socks totally rock my world.
This is my first attempt at working with a pattern that required two colours and I am excited to see if I can work it.

So far so good:)

FP - The Fishtail socks

Today I have another pair of finished socks to share that never even made it to my WIP list as I finished them so quickly :)
Following my "success" of completing two pairs of socks in a short amount of time, I felt brave enough to design my own pair.
When I say designing, I mean that I have taken the general measurements for a medium sized sock, found myself a knitted pattern I liked (the fishtail) and worked the sock design around the pattern.
I made a slight mistake though in that the cuff on one sock is two rows shorter than the other....but I can live with that considering that the cuff will be hidden under trouser legs anyway.

FP - The Tadpole Socks

The tadpole socks are done...YAY!

In fact, they have been almost worn to bits by now as they were finished Mid-July already, I just didn't get a chance to upload the pictures earlier.
There is something about red socks that I love...
It's a good thing that I still have a lot of red and orange yarn left - I see many more bright socks in my future :)

FP - The Dude's Socks

Hu??

Where the heck did these spring from? They were never even mentioned as a WIP....

One of my goals for this year was to knit a pair of socks and I never thought I would manage it quite so quickly.
See, {I did crochet quite a few pairs} previously and while I like to wear them in the colder months around the house, they are not really that comfortable inside shoes. And to be honest, knitted socks look so much nicer.

There are many blogs I follow which showcase wonderful knitted socks and I have tried a few times to cast on a pair only to fail at the gusset. Whenever I picked up the stitches I was left with visible holes and no matter what I tried, it just did not work out.

So I checked online tutorials, looked for various different methods on how to best to the heel turning and just like it did with the granny square (after months of failing to grasp it) all of a sudden it clicked and was no longer an issue.
And I even mastered the Kitchener's Stitch so much better than for my {Hoodie}

The only problem I have with the socks is that they are a touch too loose for me. They look fine in the picture but as soon as I walk a few steps they start to ride around and will give me blisters.
The good news is that they are a perfect fit for Mr P - so he is a happy bunny with his first pair of knitted socks.

WIP - Tadpole Socks

I am so excited that my sock-knitting adventure is going better than I anticipated.
Currently I have the {Tadpole sock} on my needles and seeing that I had all this lovely red and orange yarn to play with, a pair of bright socks was really a no brainer for me.
In all honesty, I never thought I would take to the pattern that well, but it is so easy!
My first sock was completed within three evenings and I just started the cuff of the second one.
I am now on a mission to complete one pair of socks each month...well let's see how well I fare with that one

Crochet YAY - The Socks (again)

I have so many WIP's going at the moment (see this post), that I am actually surprised I finish ANY right now...but there yes, they are starting to all become YAY's swiftly.

Memba when I started on the burgundy socks? I tried a different stitch for the main body of the sock too (see this post) and now they are finally done.

To tell you the truth, the picture doesn't do them justice - they look uneven and crooked here and the colour does not show as dark and rich as it really is.

They turned out to be quite expensive at £10.40 (approx $17.00) for the pair which I would NEVER, EVAH pay for shop bought socks, but I just adore to wear something that I created and they are soooooooooooo soft and snuggly.

But, my next pair are going to be knitted, as I want some thinner socks and with crocheting you only seem to be able to achieve this thick look.

I'd be interested to know - how much money would you pay for a pairs of socks?
Shop bought or handmade?

Crochet - The Slipper-Socks

I am currently totally into crocheting socks again.

Whilst there have been failures along the way (too small, too big, too ugly, too scratchy, too thin, too thick), I think I have found my "rhythm" now and am almost at a stage where I do not have to refer back to my instructions from this book:
Source: Amazon

Yes, some of the socks look ghastly, but if you ignore the colour combinations of some of them you will find that they are actually really fun to do.

It is pretty much one basic pattern with a few different twists but at the moment I am just sticking with the basic sock. You may have seen my previous pairs crocheted here but this time I wanted to do something a little different.
I decided not to stitch the cuff together but leave it open and adorn it with some buttons - I call these my slipper socks as the yarn makes them very durable and they are perfect to be worn like slippers around the house.

Since I finished the slipper socks, I started on another pair using some gorgeous 50/50 wool /arcylic mix which I picked up at John Lewis the other day.
The yarn is Wendy Norse Chunky and it retails at around £2.80 per 50g.
Unfortunately it has a very low running length and it looks like my new socks will turn out to be quite expensive in the end...but the yarn feels soooooooooooo great!
If  you look very closely you may be able to spot that I have used a different stitch for the main body of he sock and so far I am loving it.

And because one WIP project is never enough for me, I also have a scarf on the go, making use of all my leftover Patons Smoothie DK yarns and following the awesome and super-easy pattern from Anazard

So, now I need your help - I have these scrummy balls of Sidar yarn waiting to be used but I just cannot make up my mind as to how... I have more scarves than I will ever be able to wear, I don't need more socks or pillow cases or blankets - so, what's a girl to do?

If you have any suggestions for me that would be great and if you have a link to a specific pattern which you think may work well with those yarns I would be even so grateful of you link me up in the comments section.

Crochet YAY - The Socks x 2

Lately I have been obsessed with socks and in all honesty, they crochet so fast that I didn't even have the time to take a WIP picture.

My first pair took a little longer because I had to frog it about two times - am I the only one who reads a pattern, thinks she knows what it means and half through realises
"oh-so-THAT's-how-I-should-have-done-it-10-rows-earlier". ?
Seriously...I swear I have a problem there. I read and understand completely what the pattern says, but it must be a singular braincell thinking "nope-not-doing-it" and all goes wonky because of one misplaced stitch.
In fairness, my first pair of socks were crocheted with the mistake throughout and I only noticed I did it all wrong when I started my second pair...so it is not a noticeable  mistake, but it bugs me nevertheless.

Anyway, here's the first pair - as always just click onto the picture to make them bigger

Yarn:
Stylecraft Special DK in Spring Green #1316 (80g), Turquoise #1068 (80g)
Hook:
5.0mm
Pattern:
Basic Sock from the Learn To Crochet Socks book by Kathy Wesley
Time to complete: if you don't count the frogging - 1 week
Total cost: £3.18

And then I came across this yarn in my local John Lewis....swooooooooon

Truth be told, I am NOT a fan of multi coloured yarn as it usually looks totally stupid when used for crocheting. Most of the time it overpowers the nice texture you get with crochet.
But for socks this yarn is the dog's doodats - wanna see?

Yarn:
Sirdar Click DK in Blazer #111 - 200g
Hook:
3.0
Time to complete: 2 days!!!
Total cost: £10.60

See what I mean?
The texture for crocheted socks is really not that important unless you want to try yourself on a cable or shell pattern, but for a simple DC pattern, this kinda yarn is the best.
The only downside is the price tag - generally I never pay more than £3.00 for a pair of socks, so to fork out a little over three times just for the yarn and do the work myself is kinda steep.
But on the other hand - I am sure these socks will last me for a looooooooooooooong time before they start to get holes on the heel
